Ways to Decrease Stress

Stress is a major issue that million of people deal with daily, sometimes hourly, depending on several factors. Stress is the way your body reacts to certain triggers, demands, or challenges. Although there are many responses to stress, the primary responses come in increase heart rate and blood pressure, feeling anger or sadness, and/or changes in thoughts or beliefs. There are several groups whom can be more exposed to stress, such as parents, people in professions such as healthcare and social work, People of Color, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. The risk of being exposed to chronic stress can cause increases risk of health conditions such as heart disease, anxiety disorders, and depression. Many stress relievers require little time or even money and is something you maybe do everyday already. 

Here are some quick and useful ways to decrease stress:

  • Listen to music
  • Exercise
  • Eat healthy
  • Minmumize screentime
  • Set realistic goals and expectations
  • Journal your feelings
  • Go outside
  • Spend time with others who don’t cause stress
  • Try yoga
  • Get enough sleep

Be sure to incorporate some of these actions into your daily schedule to see how your stress levels are affected.
